किती लिहिलं मी ?

संगणकाचा वापर करायला लागल्यापासून स्पेलचेक आणि वर्ड काऊंट करायची येताजाता सवय लागते. [म्हणजे स्वतः नीट स्पेलिंग लिहायचं नाही, भरमसाठ लिहायचं आणि नंतर जबाबदारी संगणकावर ढकलायची.:)]

...तर किती शब्द लिहून झालेत, हे बघण्याची सवय बहुधा word count वर टिचकी मारून झालेली आहे. वर्ड २००७ मध्ये टिचकी कुठे मारायची हे कळत नाही. सर्व मेनू आणि सबमेनू शोधून होतात.

सोपे आहे.
वर्डफाईल संगणकावर खालच्या बाजूला जिथे संपते तिथे थेट आकडाच दिसतो. ती ओळ साधारण अशी दिसतेः

102 च्या जागी तुम्ही जितकं लिहिलं असेल ती संख्या.

पानाला आडवे करा !

वर्ड संदर्भात पानाचे ओरिएंटेशन म्हणजे पान उभे (Portrait) असावे की आडवे(Landscape). सहसा पान उभेच असते. क्वचित् आपल्याला ते आडवे हवे असते.
पान उभ्या स्थितीत असेल तर ते आडवे करण्याची रीत अशी :
१. वर्डचे एखादे पान उघडा.
२. मुख्य मेनूबारवरील तिसरा पर्याय Page Layout वर क्लिक करा.
३. Page Layout या शब्दाच्या खाली Orientation, Size, Columns असे तीन शब्द आले आहेत, याची खात्री करा.
४. Orientation शब्दावर क्लिक करा.
५. Portrait आणि Landscape हे दोन पर्याय दिसत आहेत, याची खात्री करा.
६. Landscape वर क्लिक करा.
७. क्लिक करताक्षणी पानाच्या आकारात बदल झालेला दिसत आहे, याची खात्री करा.

वर्ड २००७ चे डॉक्युमेंट प्रिंट कसे करावे?

प्रिंट कमांडसाठी शक्यतो File हा पर्याय शोधला जातो. पण वर्ड २००७ आपल्याला चकवते. File या नावाचा कुठलाही मेनू वर्डमध्ये नसल्याने आपण प्रिंट कमांड शोधतच राहतो.
तथापि, शोधाशोध थांबवून खाली दिलेल्या सोप्या पध्दतीने प्रिंट द्यावी.
डॉक्युमेंट प्रिंट असे करावे:
1. वरच्या डाव्या कोप-यात पाहावे.
२. निळा, हिरवा, पिवळा व लाल असे रंग असलेल्या चौकोनसदृश आकृतींनी बनलेला एक गोल आहे, याची खात्री करावी. (हीच आकृती वर्ड सुरु होताना समोरील चौकोनात दिसते याची नोंद घ्यावी.)
३. क्लिक करावे.
३. New, Open, Save, Save as, Print असे पाच पर्याय दिसतील. Print वर कर्सर केवळ न्यावा, क्लिक करु नये.
४. Print, Quick Print, Quick Review असे तीन पर्याय आहेत, याची खात्री करावी..
५. पहिल्या पर्यायावर क्लिक करावे.
६. समोर अवतीर्ण झालेल्या चौकोनात प्रिंटरचे नाव, प्रिंटस्ची संख्या आणि इतर तपशिलाची याची नोंदणी अथवा निवड करावी.
७. समाधान झाले असल्यास OK म्हणावे.
8. प्रिंटस येत आहेत अथाव नाही, याची खात्री करुन घ्यावी.

वाचकसंख्या हजारांवर

प्रिंट ले आऊट सर्वात आवडता

वर्डला तीन वेगवेगळे View Format असतात. Normal, Print Layout, Outline. मी अनेकांना विचारले की, कोणता प्रकार जास्त आवडतो. बहुतेकांनी Print Layout हेच उत्तर दिले. आपण लिहिलेला मजकूर अंतिम पानावर कसा दिसेल, याची उत्सुकता ब-याच जणांना असते, हे त्यामागचे कारण असावे बहुतेक. यदाकदाचित् मजकूर छापायची वेळ आलीच तर छापलेल्या पानावर मजकुराची सुरुवात कुठे झाली, कडेपासून किती अंतर घेतले होते हे आधीच कळण्यची सोय या लेआऊट मध्ये आहेत.

A number of sheets can be created inside an excel file. By default, there are three sheets. Any new sheet gets inserted to the left hand side of the current sheet.

Check:

1. Right click on the any or first sheet.

2. Verify that a list appears.

3. Click on first option 'Insert'.

4. Verify that a new sheet is inserted on the left hand side of the current sheet.

Many a times, we feel that a particular sheet should be present at a particular place. There is a facility to move the sheet from it original place to the desired place.

Example:

Pre-requisite: Three sheets namely A, B and C.

1. Right click on A sheet.

2. Verify that a list appears.

3. Click on the fourth option 'Move or Copy...'.

4. Verify that a square box called 'Move or Copy' appears. Verify that the second section is called 'Before Sheet'.

5. Select the option 'Move to end'.

6.Verify that A sheet is moved towards the end.

युनिकोड : नवी लेखननीती

   या आधी एक पोस्ट लिहिली होती ज्यात 'वर्ड' आणि 'युनिकोड' एकमेकांना अनुकूल असल्याचा उल्लेख होता.
   संगणकावर मराठी लिहिण्यासाठी युनिकोड ही एक नवी पध्दत आहे. 'नवी' हा शब्द तसा चुकीचा आहे. पध्दत अस्तित्वात होतीच पण अनेकांना माहीत नव्हती. हळूहळू युनिकोडबद्दल लोकांमध्ये जागृती होत आहे कारण शासनस्तरावर या प्रणालीचा विचार झालेला आहे. तथापि, अजूनही अनेकजण 'फोनेटिक' प्रकारचा कीबोर्ड वापरुनच मराठी टायपिंगची झटापट करत असतात. 'युनिकोड' साठी निराळ्या प्रकारचा कीबोर्ड आवश्यक असतो. एकदा तो पाठ झाला की, काम फत्ते होते.
   'युनिकोड' या विषयावर सर्वांगीण माहिती असेलेले एकही पुस्तक बाजारात नव्हते. ही कमतरता माधव शिरवळकर यांच्या पुस्तकांने पूर्ण केलेली आहे. पुस्तकाचे नावच 'युनिकोड-तंत्र आणि मंत्र ' आहे.
     ज्यांना युनिकोड नावाची नवी लेखननीती समजून घ्यायची आहे अशांसाठी आणि जे आधीपासूनच संगणकावरील मराठी लेखनाचे शिलेदार आहेत त्यांच्यासाठीही हे पुस्तक खास आहे. 'मौलिक' हा शब्दही थिटा आहे. युनिकोडचा इतिहास आणि त्याचा सध्या विविध ठिकाणी होत असलेला वापर विस्तृतपणे विशद केलेला आहे. नमुन्यादाखल अनुक्रमणिकेतील काही प्रकरणांचा उल्लेख जरी केला तरी संगणकातील किड्यांचे डोळ चमकतील - भारतीय भाषा आणि युनिकोड, विंडोज आणि युनिकोड, गूगल आणि युनिकोड...!
   नवी मुंबईतील संगणक प्रकाशनाने हे पुस्तक प्रकाशित केले आहे.
   मराठी फॉंटच्या चक्रव्यूहातून बाहेर पडण्याचा मार्ग हे पुस्तक निःसंशयपणे दाखवू शकते.

वर्ड २००७ मध्ये मराठीत लिहिता येते !

   वर्डच्या पूर्वीच्या आवृत्ती युनिकोडला अनुकूल नव्हत्या. मराठीत वर्डमध्ये लिहिणे ही जवळजवळ अशक्यप्राय गोष्ट होती. फोनेटिक कीबोर्ड वापरून महत्प्रयासाने मजकूर लिहावा लागत असे. लिहायचं, मग फाईल बंद करून पुन्हा उघडून पाहायची, दुस-या कॉम्प्युटरवर ती उघडत आहे का हे पाहायचं, मेलमधून एखाद्याला ती फाईल पाठविल्यास ती त्याच्याकडे उघडते का हे पाहायचं....ही सगळी कर्मकहाणी वर्डच्या नेहमीच्या उपभोक्त्यांना माहीतच आहे.
   अगदी वर्ड २००३ पर्यंत हे होत होतं.
   पण आता..सण साजरा करावा अशी बातमी आहे.
   वर्ड २००७ युनिकोड तंत्रज्ञानाला पाठिंबा देते !
   युनिकोड असेल आणि वर्ड २००७ असेल तर आता तुम्ही मराठीत पाहिजे तितके लिहू शकता. मग ती कथा असो व कार्यालयीन अहवाल !

Writing date in a cell

Again we are talking about Excel.

Some people want the date to be specifically written in a cell in this order:
Number, word, Number.
For example,
13 November 2010

Select any cell; for example, A2.
A1 is considered as the cell for column heading. In this case, the heading is 'Date'.

In A2, type date as 13 November 2010
Observe that the date has become 13-Nov-2010.
This means writing 13 November 2010 as it is, is not the proper way.
Delete the matter.
In the same cell, type single inverted comma ( ' )in the cell.
Type 13 November 2010.
Observe that the cell has remain unchanged as 13 November 2010.

Excel - How to write a comment in a particular cell?

Sometimes, we wish to write a comment for a particular cell in the column. The comment indicates that there is something which is not ordinary about the cell.
For example, a sheet contains information about the salaries received by some personnel. There are two columns, A and B. Rows 1 to 5 in column A indicate the names of the personnel who receive salary. Rows 1 to 5 in column B indicates the salary figures. All cells except B 4 has figure Rs.10,000. B4 contains figure Rs.5000. It can be seen that there is something different about B4 and the user of the sheet needs to know it.
We wish to write a comment for B4.
Please follow the steps given below for writing the comment.
1. Click in cell B4.
2. Click on menu 'Insert'.
3. Click on the tool 'Comment'.
4. Verify that a small rectangle appears with some letters* in left hand top corner.
5. Verify that a Red triangle appears inside B4.
6. Write your comment inside the rectangle as : Rs.5,000 were given in advance.
7. Once your job is over, take the mouse cursor anywhere on the sheet and left click.
8. Verify that the rectangle disappears.
9. The disappearance of the rectangle indicates that the comment is successfully written.

* These letters are according to your computer set up.

Word 2007 supports Unicode

   Long back I had installed Unicode technology at my home computer. I have created a number of documents in notepad thorough Marathi language, which is my mother tongue. I used type Marathi matter in notepad and then copy it to Word 2003. I had Office 2003 installed. Directly typing in Word 2003 was not possible. Even after copying to Word 2003, the matter was not quite visible.
   It was clear that Word 2003 does not support Unicode technology. Neither through direct typing or in case of copying. By default, Mangal font is associated with Marathi in Unicode and Mangal is not seen in Word 2003.
     Few days back, I was just discussing with family members and some of friends about Unicode's compatibility with Word 2007. Most of them opined that Word 98 was supporting Unicode. I was of the same opinion. I informed them the situation of Word 2003.
   Recently, I had installed Word 2007 at my home and I was sure that it is not going to support Unicode..
   but...
     to my great surprise...I could do it!
   I tried my name in Marathi and it was successfull! I was absolutely overwhelmed!!!

   Microsoft had decided to support regional languages?
   Anybody has idea?

How to repeat a kind of formatting in excel?

We often need to apply a formatting to more than one cell, one row one column.
Today, we will how to do this with the example of applying colour.
Please follow the steps given below:

Select cell A1.
Apply any colour in that cell, for example 'Yellow'.
Let the cell be selected.
Verify that Standard Toolbar is available below main menus.
Verify that a tool Format Painter is available below the menu Data on Standard Toolbar.
Double click the tool.
Verify that the selected cell is surrounded by dotted line. It indicates that the tool has become active.
Click on cell B1. Observe that the same colour yellow is applied in that cell.
Click on cell C1. Observe that the same colour yellow is applied to the cell.
Click on cell D5. Observe that the same colour yellow is applied to the cell.

In this way, you can colour any number of cells in that sheet.
Please note that you could apply a formatting repeatedly, because you had double clicked the original cell. If you would have single clicked the original cell, you could have applied the formatting only once, to only one cell.

Try another example:

Type the word 'Excel' in cell B2.
Apply color 'Blue' to the words.
Type the word 'Word' in cell C3.
Type the word 'PowerPoint' in cell E1.
Type the word 'Document' in cell F4.
Select the cell B2.
Double click the tool Format Painter.
Click the cells C3, E1 and F4.
Observe that all three words in C3, E1 and F4 have become blue.

Dear friends,

Word, Excel and Powerpoint....
these are regular members in our daily life. The modern office creates a number of documents with these members. In absence of these, we become helpless.
..don't you agree with me?
If we do not convert these visitors into friends in time, we are going to suffer. Constant communication about these members will take us to strong and healthy friendship one day!
These programmes are almost a deep sea and we are going to jump into the water only just few feet inside.
Still, we can have some idea of the water.
